Ruffin has had the privilege of pastoring 3 churches in his nearly 40 years of pastoral ministry. In each church he was the primary preaching pastor, beginning in Indiana, where he also received his Masters of Divinity at Grace Theological Seminary. That ministry was followed by 9 years in Pittsburgh at his second church. While pastoring in Pittsburgh, he pursued a Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Studies at Westminster Theological Seminary (WTS) outside of Philadelphia. His final pastorate of 28 years was in Suffolk, Virginia. Through Ruffin's leadership and preaching, Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church (WRPC) grew from 140 worshippers to over 1,000. During his tenure as Senior Pastor, he also oversaw several building projects and a significant move to new location. The church thrived as a result. In December 2022, Ruffin happily retired as the Senior Pastor at WRPC.

From the beginning of Ruffin's call to ministry, he had a deep love for preaching the word of God. Ruffin has peached over 1,200 sermons to both small and large congregations. He predominantly delivered expository sermons, but he also preached topically and thematically. His passion for biblical research, hermeneutics, homiletics, theology, and adult learning resonates in his warm and engaging coaching.

As a sermon coach, Ruffin strongly believes that preachers need quality feedback to grow personally and professionally. Most preachers that he talks to enjoy preaching and but don't know how to improve their craft. The challenge they say is getting thoughtful and articulate feedback from a trusted source. Ruffin's experience talking with these pastors has led him to create a sermon coaching program that clarifies, structures, enhances, and delivers meaningful improvements to pastors' sermon preparation, writing, and delivery.
